Dr. Rick C. Chen joined Family Foot and Ankle Physicians on August 1, 2012 after completing a three-year comprehensive foot and ankle surgical residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. In his final year of training, he served as the Section Chief Resident. While at Yale New Haven Hospital, Dr. Chen received extensive training in Charcot foot and flatfoot reconstruction utilizing the latest internal and Ilizarov/external fixation surgical techniques. He is well versed in various plastic surgical techniques in the treatment of chronic diabetic ulcers and trauma-induced wounds. Dr. Chen is also trained in the conservative and surgical management of trauma-related foot and ankle injuries as well as many other foot and ankle ailments. Dr. Chen received his dual undergraduate degrees in Biological and Biomedical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2004, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He earned his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 2009 and was the recipient of multiple American Podiatric Medical Association Education Foundation scholarships. Dr. Chen is a former competitive swimmer. In his spare time he enjoys playing basketball, cross-training, and playing guitar. Dr. Chen is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and is board certified in foot surgery.
