Family Foot & Ankle Physicians (FFAP) is excited to announce the opening of a new Limb Preservation Center. The Limb Preservation Center offers conservative and surgical intervention for patients suffering from complex foot and ankle conditions such as infection, trauma, or tumor pathology, which may lead to amputation if left untreated. The Limb Preservation Center provides access to a multidisciplinary team consisting of vascular surgeons, podiatrists, and wound care nurses; all focused on preserving limbs whenever possible for the patient. FFAP’s goal is to improve patient’s quality of life by restoring function following a devastating injury or illness.
“This is an exciting time for our practice as we continue to grow for eastern North Carolina as we can really focus to see more patients at risk of losing a limb.” Dr. Rick C. Chen
Wounds and ulcers that are non-healing or slow healing can lead to serious complications. Receiving timely and proper treatment from experienced specialists is critical. Patients with diabetes should take extra care of wounds to reduce the risk of infection and amputation, which is why FFAP needed to bring this new Limb Preservation Center to eastern North Carolina.
FFAP’s new Limb Preservation Center will be located next to its existing building for the foot and ankle at 1432 E. Fire Tower Road in Greenville, where FFAP will continue to treat conditions such as bunions, flat feet, routine foot care, fractures, and sprains.
FFAP is also releasing a new logo for both clinics and the organization. The new logo shows FFAP pushing their new foot forward, which only slightly changes from the former logo where the foot was standing flat in the horizontal position. FFAP believes the new logo represents a more forward approach to the recovery of the foot and ankle.
In addition, both clinics will have a separate title for patients to find the location they are scheduled for treatment. While Family Foot and Ankle Physicians is the overarching corporate name, the current clinic will be named Foot and Ankle Center at Family Foot and Ankle Physicians and the new clinic will be named Limb Preservation Center at Family Foot and Ankle Physicians. You can see both names and logos below that will help with identifying each location on the FFAP campus.
“This is an exciting time for our practice as we continue to grow for eastern North Carolina as we can really focus to see more patients at risk of losing a limb”, stated Dr. Rick C. Chen who has been with the practice since 2012 and is a partner in the organization. “We just wanted a multidisciplinary clinic that folks in eastern North Carolina could find treatment for their condition and know that someone cares to save their foot or leg,” stated Dr. J. Scott Stancil who is also a partner in the practice and founded Family Foot and Ankle Physicians in 2001. Family Foot and Ankle Physicians other business partner and the current president with the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society of North Carolina, Dr. Amy M. Pitzer stated “We see the risk of patients losing limbs weekly and we strive to do everything we can to prevent the loss of a leg or foot. With this new approach to limb preservation, we will be able to give the patients faster access to specialists and hopefully save the limb for the patient.” An associate provider with the practice, Dr. Brian L. Jones states, “It is imperative for us to catch the wound in its early stages, especially if the patient has diabetic foot wounds that can result in major limb loss.”
Expected completion date on the new Limb Preservation Center at Family Foot and Ankle Physicians is July 2023. Progress is being made weekly on the building sight. Some parking has changed for the patients at the current clinic, but plenty of parking spaces are available.
Family Foot and Ankle Physicians will also be adding jobs for medical professionals in the region with the opening of the new clinic. Positions that will be available for hire will start by May and will include front desk receptionists, medical assistants and wound care nurses.
